In the wake of the anti-Sterlite (copper smelting facility) agitation which took a violent turn on Tuesday, with 11 persons being killed in police firing on protesters in Thoothukudi, Internet services have been suspended three districts of Tamil Nadu – Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. However, voice calls have not been barred. Data services will remain barred from Tuesday evening (May 23) until May 27.
Reportedly, on 25th May, the Internet services were restored in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu after the Home Dept. wrote a letter to District administration and Telecom Service Providers. Suspension of Internet services continues in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. |
